Gearing up for Olympiad XXX with the London 2012 Festival

With the Summer Olympics are only five months away, the UK is in high gear, preparing for the grand festivities.  London will be the first city to host the Olympics three times and to make the most of this special year, the UK is hosting several festivals leading up to the official Olympiad XXX kickoff in August.

Check out this impressive list of activities and celebrations all under the umbrella of London Festival 2012.

MUSIC NATION: March 3rd & 4th there will be a countrywide celebration called Music Nation, a London 2012 Festival countdown event, taking place at over fifty venues around the UK.  The project is devised and led by the BBC.

WORLD SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL: It would not be a true UK festival without paying homage to the world’s best and most renowned playwright, William Shakespeare.  Therefore, the World Shakespeare Festival will kick off on April 23rd and will run until November of 2012.  There will be almost seventy productions, plus events and exhibitions across the UK as well as online, celebrating the man who made the world a stage.

LONDON 2012 FESTIVAL: On June 21, the biggest festival the UK has ever seen will kick-off with over 1000 artists from nearly every genre imaginable.  The London 2012 Festival runs through, September 9th, and has a little something for everybody.

Though this is called Olympiad XXX, there have only been 27 Olympics because Olympiads VI, XII and XIII were cancelled due to war.
